#HeathWeek2020 – Sharing the magic of heathland!
Did you catch Heath Week on social media?
This year was our third Heath Week and a little bit different. We weren’t expecting to go ‘virtual’, but we teamed up with our partners at Surrey Wildlife Trust to deliver a brilliant electronic celebration of local heathland.
Creating a buzz
Our social media channels were buzzing like never before! All the educational resources and species fact files we’d worked on during lockdown suddenly came into their own and have been splashed across the virtual world. We’ve done virtual tours, responsible dog walking, wildfire awareness, grazing, species spotlights, botany and even feather identification brought to life with beautiful illustrations. The Dartford warblers performed on cue, the nightjars churred and even the elusive sand lizard came out for the TV cameras. The Surrey Biodiversity Information Centre (SBIC) put together a heathland recording app. and Surrey Wildlife Trust brought it altogether in an epic schedule, culminating in their appearance on Countryfile at Wisley and Ockham Commons.
The beauty of going virtual is that it’s not too late to catch it, just use hashtag #HeathWeek2020!
