Greenspace on your doorstep: Update

In my recent blog post, ‘Fancy a walk?’, I explained the story behind the walks in our ‘Greenspace on your doorstep’ directory. There’re 80 of these dog-friendly, family-friendly walks, with more being added regularly. As well as our website, there’s also a free ‘Greenspace on your doorstep’ booklet you can download from here or pick up at any of our events. The booklets have been very popular and I love to hear that so many of you enjoy them and find them useful. But with 80 walks now open to the public, the booklet version is getting a little out of date. It was published in 2019 and lists 62 walks, so I think it’s about time I put out a new edition!

I’m hoping to publish a 2023 edition this summer and am currently revisiting all the entries to make sure I’ve got the details right. With 80 walks, across Surrey, Hampshire & Berkshire, there’s a lot to do, but I think I’ve visited more than 50 now, so I’m getting there. It’s a bit like painting the Forth Bridge though!

I’ve been updating our website as I go and if I find anything of particular interest, I post about it on social media too (follow hashtag #GreenspaceOnYourDoorstep). I also do regular posts in our Heathland Hounds Facebook group, as do many of our members, so that’s also a great place to get on the inside track. Our Heathland Hounds members are fabulous, and generously share helpful details about the walks, anything from reports of broken fences and path maintenance, to lovely photographs and safe, dog-friendly walk recommendations.
