What you’ll find there…
Great greenspace for the development at Arborfield Green, where Arborfield Garrison and the School of Electronic & Aeronautical Engineering once stood. Now thoughtfully laid out to encourage wildlife, with wildflower meadows, wildlife ponds, hibernation areas and an impressive bat barn! The perfect place for local people to get a breath of fresh air.
For longer walks, there is a good link to California Country Park via the California Way, a public footpath starting close to the Commonfield Lane entrance at What3Words: breezy.originate.alone.
And by the way, if you happen to notice that the stream has turned orange, this is perfectly natural. It’s an iron rich stream, similar to the one at Rook’s Nest Wood.
Note: Dog walkers may like to know that to complete the circuit it’s necessary to cross the moderately busy road at Biggs Lane twice. There may be limited drinking places – there are areas that are seasonally wet and streams have rust-red, iron-rich water. There are some shady areas.
