What you’ll find there…
Tucked away in a quiet corner of Crowthorne, away from busy roads, find Broadmoor Farm Meadows. A tranquil walk with distinctive wooded knolls. When the gorse is in flower, these meadows have a heathland feel and we’re quite at home!
The landscape you find here today is an echo of the past. Once parkland lying beyond the boundary of Broadmoor Hospital, from where patients had the benefit of long views across extensive grounds and the parkland beyond. The historic hospital still sits prominently on the skyline. First opened in 1863, it remains in use as a high-security psychiatric unit. When we first started visiting this area, the hospital’s alarm was tested every Monday at 10am. But even Monday mornings are peaceful now, as tests ceased in 2018.
Update July 2024: WE have contacted Barratt David Wilson to ask why the bins aren’t being emptied regularly.
Note: Can be wet under foot. Dog walkers may find it useful to know that a steam runs across the meadows and is a useful watering hole.
