What you’ll find there…
New for 2024, and still being completed, is this woodland adjoining Wellesley Woodlands. We’ll be keeping an eye on this one and will let you know how it develops. Don’t come expecting it to be finished and well-groomed yet, but it’s open to the public, so feel free to explore. Find the finger post pointing to Wellesley Woodlands opposite the car park entrance, on the other side of the road. The ‘See route’ button above shows you the route we mapped when we were exploring ourselves, it’s there to give you an idea of the extent of the woodlands and show you how the different bits link up.
Noticeboards around the woodlands give interesting insight into former military use. Once part of Blandford House, built around 1903-04 as the official residence of the General in charge of Administration for the Aldershot Command. Later turned into offices.
The woods are also home to one of the UK’s rarest plants, Green Hound’s-tongue, possibly the largest population of the plant in the country! See flowering in late April and May.
