Find a pedestrian entrance off the A322 Guildford Road, Bisley, opposite Limecroft Road at SU 95641 58598, What3Words: luxury.stars.filed. There’s no dedicated car park for this nice little common, but there’s space for a few cars in a dirt layby on Stafford Lake, Bisley, nearest postcode GU24 9FT. Grid reference SU 95546 58456. What3Words: lots.purple.ends.

What you’ll find there…
Like many commons in the area, Bisley Common has been used by local residents for centuries. Once a source of fuel and other materials, and as pasture, these days the main use is exercise and recreation. This long history has created wonderful habitats for wildlife, with a mix of heathland, grassland and woodland. Now designated a Site of Interest for Nature Conservation (SINC), Bisley Common is managed for wildlife and people alike.
The circular walk is waymarked with white-topped posts. If parked at the dirt layby on Stafford Lake, you’ll spot one of the posts in the woodland next to the layby. This one leads you in a clockwise direction. When you come to the lane, with no obvious marker, turn left up Stafford Lake until you see the next marker on a track going right (in less than 100m).
The one bin we found is near a pedestrian entrance near the corner of Oak Tree Road and Grindstone Crescent, What3Words: brick.sling.reach.
Those with children to entertain may find it useful to know that there is a small play area at the end of Jopling Road at What3Words: sweat.minute.guides. Steps approach the play area.
Note: Dog owners may find it useful to know that this common doesn’t have a perimeter fence. It’s sometimes grazed. There’s not much traffic, but there are small access tracks traversing the site. And shooting from nearby Bisley Shooting Ground can be heard from here and may upset pets. There isn’t a reliable source of natural drinking water, but there’s plenty of shade.
