What you’ll find there…
Ash Green Meadows are well worth seeking out! There’s a huge area of meadow, the perfect place for a bit of peace and quiet, complete with boardwalk and a pond that dogs love to dip in.
From the car park, cross the disused railway line, now a surfaced footpath, and take the path signposted “Ash Green Meadows”. Follow this path for approx. 200m and you’ll come to a metal gate leading into the meadows at What3Words: piles.dish.slam. There are numerous entry points on both sides of this path, but this is the nearest one to the car park.
You may notice that a large number of trees have been felled (winter 2023/24) in the area called Bin Wood. Unfortunately many of the Ash trees are dying from Ash dieback disease. To make the footpaths safe, the Blackwater Valley Countryside Partnership are felling trees within falling distance of the paths. But fear not, there’s also a two year plan to replant and regenerate.
If you’d like a longer walk, it’s easy to link this walk with Runfold Ridge, via the Christmas Pie Trail. It’s not well signposted, but it’s easy to find and there’s a pedestrian crossing to take you safely across the busy junction with the A31.
Note: A fenced pond has notices that say DANGER Deep Water No Swimming. This pond is for dog use only.
