An Insect Walk on Horsell Common
30th July @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Event Navigation
An opportunity to see some of the insects that make heathland such a special habitat.
The Horsell Common Sand Pit is a hot spot for solitary bees and wasps, including the Bee Wolf and the Green-eyed Flower Bee. The Sand Pit, famous as the landing site of the Martian invasion in H G Wells’s War of the Worlds, is now home to 1000s of Bee Wolves! The shallow bowl makes it a very special habitat for these and other amazing creatures.
Leisurely walk lead by entomologist and Horsell Common Preservation Society trustee, Andrew Halstead.
*** The walk is going ahead today but we’ll keep to the shadiest route. We recommend using plenty of sunscreen, wearing a hat and bringing lots of water with you. ***
