Our Amazing Heathlands: Local Cubs helping the heath!
When 1st Bisley Cubs visited Horsell Common they found out about heathland and some of its fantastic plants and animals.
The Cubs had great fun exploring the Common, learning about nightjars, tiger beetles, sundews and other heathland species. They also found out about some of the threats heathland faces – from wildfire, to littering and disturbance of rare ground-nesting birds.
Inspired by their visit, the group took up the challenge to ‘Help the heath’. They designed posters encouraging people to protect heathland on their visits. And what a great job they did…
The session and taking part in the poster challenge, enabled the Cubs to contribute to their ‘World’ badge. There are also possibilities to work towards ‘Naturalist‘ and ‘Environmental Conservation Activity’ badges too.
